DORSET GOLF CAPTAINS
MATCH SELECTION PROCESS
(Endorsed by Committee Jan 2024)

This process generally commences shortly after the AGM,
with a closing date for bids set around the end of January,
and initial teams named shortly thereafter.

1. All members invited to submit availability and match preference.

2. Hon Sec sorts the bids by event and lists all of them in order of preference or availability.

3. A sub-committee of President, Captain, Vice-Captain and Hon Sec perform the selection using the following template.
      a. St Mellion team chosen by Captain from those available.
      b. 6 Counties team chosen by Captain from those available.
      c. 4 Counties team – places given to available Committee Members as agreed by the
           4 Counties when this event was set up. Remaining spaces chosen by Captain.
      d. All bids for each remaining match assembled and listed in order of member’s preference.
      e. Team chosen by giving places in order of member’s preference value.
           (In 2024 everyone was placed in the match of their first preference).
      f. Subsequent selections taken from 2nd,3rd,4th and so on, preferences.
      g. When number of members in the level of preference exceeds number of spaces remaining,
           lots are drawn to see who is chosen from those in that level.
      h. Whenever a member is balloted out their next preference is improved by 1 to compensate.

4. A check is then performed to see that everyone has a ‘fair’ share and some minor amendments may be made
           to improve the out come for those who appear to have done badly.

5. The selections are then submitted to the Committee for approval.

6. After approval the total list of teams and reserves are to be posted on the website.
