The Colin Chataway Trophy, organised by The Dorset Golf Captains, was inaugurated in 1982 with the aim of encouraging and helping boys and girls aged 16, and under, with their etiquette and interpretation of the Rules of Golf. The event is a stableford team competition which is open to all clubs in Dorset, which may enter one or two teams of four youngsters. The team with the highest aggregate score (all four scores to count) wins the competition. It is a very popular competition played in a competitive spirit whilst also fulfilling its educational aims. Indeed, its alumnae include a number of current tournament professionals, club professionals and county players. The event is hosted by a different club in the county each year. |
2025 RESULT for the COLIN CHATAWAY TROPHY | ||
Held on MONDAY 28 JULY 2025 at Weymouth GOLF CLUB. Firstly many thanks must go to Weymouth Golf Club and team, in particular Nikki, Dan, Danny & Jacob, for their hosting and assistance with the event. For the first time, we were able to run the event as a WHS Qualifier using the Club V1 system. The course was in excellent condition and was set up as the ideal challenge for our competitors. We hosted 50 players from 11 Clubs, aged from 9 to 17. On the course the weather was significantly cooler than 2024 which was welcomed by all! The Clubhouse experience was a delight, both in terms of setting up the room and the excellent meal and service provided - in particular the large sausages went down very well with the players! Grateful thanks should also go to our DGC volunteers who were prompt, well presented and created an air of calming support. The Reception desk, hosted by Alan and Lida, ran very smoothly and David managed the starting process without a hitch. Of note this year was how all our Marshalls managed to deliver their respective groups around the course in c.4 hours, this was a superb effort! Finally thanks to Bob Mico & Mark Humphries - Weymouth Golf Club President and Captain respectively, David Kimberley, our Dorset Golf Captains President and other Committee members for attending and assisting at the presentation. We are looking forward to the 2026 event. The 2025 results were as follows:
