In sunny but windy conditions the teams of 12 Club Captains from 14
counties competed over 2 days for the Saunton Salver over both the East and the
West excellent courses at Saunton. The 30Km/hr Easterly winds made the two
courses even tougher than when played in the prevailing Westerly winds. The
weather was good and the greens speedy but true.
Tied with Worcestershire and trailing Staffordshire by 11 pts and Warwickshire
by 7 pts after day one the Dorset Captains mounted a supreme effort on the 2nd
day to beat Warwickshire by 2 pts and Staffordshire by 1 pt.
An outstanding achievement. This closely fought contest also included teams from
Derbyshire, Devon, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire & Herefordshire, South
Wales, Suffolk, Surrey and Wiltshire.
